Trunk Club for Women Review | Part II

My trunk arrived on Thursday, Nov. 12, right on time. Hooray! 

After I received the package, my stylist Elena sent me a quick email instructing me to do the following:

1. Try everything on.

2. Share feedback on your trunk, so I can continue to learn what items will work best for you.

3. Keep what you love, and send the rest back. When you're ready, schedule a pickup and we'll have UPS come retrieve any returns for free.

Because Trunk Club allows you to review/approve the items in your trunk, I already knew what I was going to receive. Let's have a look at what I got, plus a mini-review of each item!

What I returned

Vegan leather hooded sweater, XS, $88

I loved this sweater.. as it appears in the photo. What I didn't love was the (vegan) leather sleeves and hood (which you can't see). I will admit, wearing it made me feel like Unnamed Henchwoman Number 3 in Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" music video -- pret-ty badass. Just not for me. 

BlankNYC Vegan leather cowlneck zip jacket, XS, $98

This oxblood jacket was very soft and comfortable. But I don't know how closely it aligns with my style, or how often I would wear it. Sadly, I had to return this. 

Caslon chambray tunic, XS, $78

This was a really pretty top -- it was just a little too long for me (in all fairness, I had specified to Elena that I like my tops to be long.) I also already have a chambray top from Loft that does the trick for me, and didn't really see the need to add another one. Had to return it. 

Free People thermal top, XS, $68

This looked good in the picture, but didn't feel good once I put it on. The sleeves had a very noticeable seam at the bicep, and they were too tight on my arms. Another size or two up might have done the trick. 

Kut from the Kloth, XS, $88

This jacket was just OK to me -- nothing inherently offensive about it, but nothing that wowed me enough to keep it. I already have a Kut from the Kloth leather jacket, so I probably don't need another one.

Lucky Brand, Size 27, $99

I was on the fence about keeping these boot-cut Lucky jeans. They did fit me, but after wearing them for a while I knew I just wouldn't wear a boot-cut style. I have to really love a pair of jeans, because I wear them most days, but these just were not for me. 

Madewell 'Perfect Fall' Jean, 27, $128

I was hoping these would look and feel bangin' on me, but I had to pass. The high waist just doesn't flatter me and my flat butt. I'm open to getting more Madewell jeans in the future, just hopefully on the skinny or at least fitted side. 

Madewell sweater, XS, $118

I was SO excited to see this sweater in my preview. SO. EXCITED. But I tried it on, and it was that type of wool that's a liiiiittle too itchy :( If I'm going to spend big bucks on a sweater, it has to be soft and itch-free. Sadly, I had to pass. 

Splendid long sleeve top, XS, $63

This top looked right up my alley in the preview, and I was psyched to try it on, but unfortunately it was just too... meh. I thought the fabric was kind of thin, and the XS didn't flatter my stomach area. Pass.

Trouvé grommet detail top, XS, $68

I was pretty on the fence about this one, and I loved that this shirt was different from everything else in the trunk. I just had to pass because of the color -- I'm not sure how often I would wear a brick red shirt, and I would only want to wear it with a blazer over it. My fiance Grant really liked this one though!

What I kept

Topshop Mia coat, Size 2, $110

This coat is beautiful! I asked Elena for a Navy blazer, but since Trunk Club for Women's inventory is still limited, she sent this instead. I love it! It's a classic, warm coat. There's also plenty of room underneath to wear other layers!

Treasure&Bond Skinny Jeans Mode Blue Black, Size 27, $88

I love these jeans! They're comfortable without being too tight at the waist, and they're a good length (although they could be a little longer). I have a pair of black American Eagle skinny jeans, but they are pretty tight and have no stretch -- unlike these jeans! I can see myself wearing these several days a week to work. A+ Elena!

Treasure&Bond Plaid Flannel Tunic, XS, $78

This top. I love it so much, I actually wore it to work the day after receiving my trunk! I had no doubts that I'd be keeping this beaut. It's warm and the perfect length, and isn't flimsy like some other women's flannel shirts I've seen (my other favorite flannel top is from the men's section of American Eagle.)

Bottom line

The thing about Trunk Club is that you're getting up to 15 items -- I don't think I've ever purchased 15 items of clothing at once. It's a lot to choose from! So while I kept only three out of 13 items, I see it as a success. I'm adding three quality, versatile pieces to my wardrobe that will last longer than things I buy on an impulse trip to the mall for a cheaper price. Buy it nice, or buy it twice, right? :)

What's next?

Elena will actually be sending me a follow-up trunk shortly, based on the feedback I gave her from this one! She gave me the option of having a preview or no preview, so this time I chose to be surprised! :) I'm excited to see what she packs for me, now that she has a better grasp on my style and how I like clothes to fit!
